It’s my job to dash people’s hopes xD
I know it seemed like a stupid question, but if you had a beta up what’s keeping you from releasing at least a demo? I never understood why developers do this…
Uh, that has nothing to do with it, duh.
If they get a beta out and get to the point of ending it that means it’s operational and playable. In other words, it would be easy and effortless to release a demo, even if it’s the exact thing that was in the end version of the beta.
You really don’t know a thing about developing games, do you? Kindly stop. Thanks.
The beta was used for hammering out things. They need time to polish it, before releasing something to the public, to make sure it’s up to par. Whining isn’t gonna make it go any faster, okay? Just chill your pants. You’ll be killin’ ninja bots before you realize it at all.
I really don’t, apparently. That’s why I’m asking, and hoping (apparently in vain) that I’ll get an intelligent answer. Even if your answer is good, beginning your post with things like ‘Duh’ and ‘You really don’t know anything’ doesn’t help.
I’m not whining. I’m simply wondering. The beta was used for hammering out things. Well, in rebuttle since you seem to understand this way of speaking, DUH. They need time to polish it my ass. In my experience (I do have some you know), by the time the beta is ended that means all that’s left is minor bugs, nothing gameplay-changeing or ruining. In other words, releasing a demo (Which traditionally has less than ten levels, sometimes only one or two) wouldn’t really be so much of a stretch. I’ve seen demos for games get released before they were even close to the polishing stage, which is why I’m asking.
And from the ‘Q1’ release date, the full game should actually be out by now.
hello!
We had an open beta to test the core gameplay mechanics and our infrastructure. If you missed it, it went down like this:
1) Within 20 minutes of hitting the major new sites our infrastructure/master servers burst into flames. During the first 2 weeks of the beta they continued to be a total pain in the arse. Basically, it was like the recent DemiGod fiasco.. this had to be fixed. Unfortunatly a lot of people didn’t hang around this long to find out.
2) We found out that XNA is horrible to distribute and had major compatibility issues. Lots of people couldn’t get the game working…
3) The networking performance within the game wasn’t great on lower speed connections. It had to be fixed (to make the game fair) and optimized.
4) Although the game mechanics were ‘fun’ they weren’t based around skill. This bothered a lot of people so we decided to go back to the drawing board to resolve this.
Basically, the beta ended once we had learnt all we needed to learn. Being such a small studio we really had to push something out just to find out its faults. So, to answer the question, the reason we didn’t just keep the open beta going is because it was totally broken and is in no way a representation of the game in its current state. We’d be basically doing ourselves a disservice
Alex is currently working on the demo version of the game as we speak. It’s not as simple as it sounds, especially with a multiplayer game…
Hope that answers your questions !
Cheers
You are ever so much helpful, and I hope someday I’ll get into a small studio like yours. Mostly because I’d get some dead-end boring job in a big studio.
So now responses…
1. Sad
2. So I downloaded XNA for nothing? xD
3. I can’t really say much since I have FIOS
4. Ah. So how is it different now?
It seems like one big ninja-fest (in other words, kill them before they see you). You could make something where you press a button at collision and if you’re the only one you win, if both of you do it you clash and not hurt each other. However, there’s probably infinitely better ways to make it “Skill-based”. I have no idea how.
So just out of curiosity, is there anything you can save longer than a self-destruct? Like, any upgrades or anything that you get for your all-around account?

The tiniest lag would ruin this.
Well, I figure whatever you guys come out with’ll be good ‘nuff.
As for Flame Sprite, while I respect your opinion and views, (Yeah, maybe skipping straight to “Duh” was a bad idea, hmm?) I often come along… “Crass”. Pardon this, I don’t mean you any offense.
1. I remember reading that in the archives. That sucks dude.
2. XNA is rubbish, despite what people say about it. I’d prefer to use python for everything, buuut…
3. Hmm. I hope I can have it in 600x400 windowed mode. If so, I’m set.
4. I’d like to thank you for noticing this sort of thing before you do the demo.
Much appreciated!
That’s my resolution, although I can always go lower since I use window mode as well and it’s kind of useful to see the other windows I have up at the same time.
I hate to bust yall’s balls or anything, but shouldn’t you update the site to a later release date, since the currently broadcasted one is obviously wrong?
You’re right, we should really update that - how lazy of us to leave it for so long! Will change it now ...
Also, I think it might be a v.good idea to put in a new FAQ. I’ll do that next week.
you’re busy!
I am simply curious as to when the actual release date is now. Oh yeah! Since you’re revamping the combat system (to make it skill-based), does that mean there’ll be another beta?
