If I play the game I can think of true modding edits, but without playing it I can’t improve on it. So there. And appearances usually don’t use code at all, it’s usually modelling (3dsmax, XSI) and skinning (GIMP!).

One could probably make a clientside texture mod without the source code…... Like changing the sword for a knife…

*goes to the the game’s texture files*

I would make a better animated avatar but they can’t be more than 50KB….

People would mod some crazy stuff, especially if they could manipulate game modes to how they want. I can already see a Plain Sight RPG - on second thought maybe just sticking to customization and fixing bugs would be best wink

If i were to mod I would only change textures….(clientside) I probably wouldn’t though… Too much work

I modded a game and it turned out quite well but took me weeks.

I WOULD. The maps would be planets, larger than normal levels dramatically to add the free roam feeling, and the servers would support massive amounts of players. To travel between planets you’d need something that would propel you super-fast upwards to counter gravity, flying through space. There would be asteroid fields and you could permanently level up the skills like jump and stuff, also be able to buy power ups with energy you’ve deposited into the bank (You know how raspberry). The NPCs would be different, like some would fly through space, some might run up and explode on you after a set amount of time requiring you to kill them super-fast, some might be so giant they have their own gravitational pull… and all this would take twice as long as it took to make the actual game. xD

On a side note, I’m about to finally buy the game now that I have money. Yay :D

Maybe a new gamemode for it “Space Adventures” or something? You try to get to a certain place and if you do you can unlock a new skill maybe?

I really want to mod this game, I’ve got some hazy ideas and some that are better defined. Thanks for making a fantastic game, Beatnik, and for the recent patch that’s tightened up some of the weirder things about the game (practice mode hosting games, for example).

To allow us, the great unwashed, to mod your game, I think this is the minimum of tools you need to create:

[generic 3D model format] to Plain Sight map format
[generic 3D model and animation format] to Plain Sight format

That’s assuming you calculate the gravity wells etc just from the geometry, if not, and even if, something to manually define those features of the map would be great

Some kind of way (scripting interface [LUA?]?) to alter the game logic: Change winning conditions, assign points differently, create new perks and abilities etc

If you could do this, then I for one would mod your game to death, through the grey veil, across the nine rings of hell and back into life.

Thanks for your time, you’re wonderful people.

Something like the SDK for HalfLife 2’s source engine would be great, and just to entice Beatnik games; Gmod (obviously), Counter strike and Team Fortress were all originally Mods. They all brought in massive profits, made the whole set of games last longer, added publicity and made the fans happy.
If that isn’t enough I don’t know what is smile
