captains of crunch

Once again, the crunch begins….
The Beatnik team have two ugly deadline approaching. The first is the alpha build of the Channel 4 project (in two weeks), the second is final open beta of Plain Sight (in three weeks)
Blog posts may be a little sparse during this time however, rest assured, we haven’t stopped loving you. Please post general banter and encouragement into the forum monster. Entertain us, because it sucks to sleep in the office.
(unless you’re John, who loves sneaking into the office and sleeping under his desk when drunk )
big grapes
We’re working on a special addition to the Plain Sight game, something secret, something wonderful.
We’ve been watching how people play and we decided the game needs a little extra oomph; something to give you a little edge, something for you to care about. What could it be I hear you ponder? Well…you’ll just have to wait and see

Ada Work In Progress
Howdy folks! It has been a very busy couple of weeks at the Beatnik studio you may think that we have all been on holiday with our lack of posting. We are sorry and will start posting a lot more, I promise.
This week I have been working on Ada (the Channel 4 project). This is one of the latest levels inside the Unity engine. The picture shows what it looks like to me (dark brown and unlit) and the in-game version which is 100% accurate representation. It’s getting very exciting now all the pieces are slotting into place, slowly but surely.
In our spare time we have also been playing Left for Dead 2, it is currently our game of the month. Come and join us for a game sometime, we can all be found at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/beatnik
Anyway, if you have any questions drop us a line or speak out on the forums.
SHIT JUST GOT REEEEAAALL
Update your bookmarks…
The Plain Sight website has been updated. Rather than have a mirror of our development blog on plainsightgame.com, we’ve decided to divert all blog-hungry traffic to beatnikgames.co.uk.
Other small changes include: it now works with the RUBBISH Internet Explorer, an updated FAQ and *new* screenshots.
Oh my!
Have a great weekend!

Eurogasm
We’re now back in the office after Eurogamer Leeds / London destroyed us with a week of unfiltered awesome.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand (that, out of pure charity and pity Eurogamer gave to us gratis) and didn’t hate our game. Even if you did hate it, we love you anyway.
Check out our Flickr for a grand slam of photos along with a (bit of a rubbish) video. (below)
Showing and yelling…
In a slight panic, I’m hammering out a talk I’m supposed to give at tomorrow night’s post-Eurogamer ‘Show and Yell’ event.
We’re allowed to talk about pretty much anything for seven minutes. Currently, our greatest achievement so far is NOT releasing a game. So, at the moment, the title of the topic is: “It’s not ready yet…”
The title will probably change. But the basic premise is how fluid group-led game design can hinder tight development schedules—basically, it’s a massive list of the things we think we did wrong. (and a few that we did right)
So, for some visual fodder, I decided to go back through all our old artists sketchbooks. I think this little gem is the first accurate concept shot of Plain Sight. It was done in about 30 seconds by Hin (sadly no longer part of the Beatnik team) and remained unseen. It’s ace and still captures what we’re going for…
Hope to see some of you at Eurogamer on Friday and Saturday. I’ll be the guy standing by a machine running Plain Sight – who’d have thought?

Resolve
Have you ever wondered what happens to an enemy robot when they are caught in your self detonation?

This is a busy week for Beatnik we should have a good week of posts to read from the team, keep your eyes peeled.
