Yikes! As some of you may have guessed, our wonderful 80% off Plain Sight Steam deal has caused our account servers to burst into flames.

This means that when you register an account it can take a number of attempts. Please bear with us! If you can’t get through, either keep trying or give it a few hours to cool down.

ps: thanks for buying Plain Sight! you’re all awesome…

UPDATE: looks like the problem has been mostly solved - with a restart!!! Looks like mysql service went a bit rogue and took up all the CPU - good times! any issues, ping me an email on support@beatnikgames.co.uk

V1.2 lives!

After months of work, version 1.2 of Plain Sight has gone (rather quietly) live. We’re keeping all our fingers and toes crossed that this’ll be a totally bug-free affair, however, as with all these things in game development, there might be a few slight hiccups along the way.
If you encounter any mischief, please report it in our wonderful forum machine.

So, what’s new? Well, the biggest change we’ve made to the game is adding a persistent power-up system. Now, rather than being randomly awarded with a power-up upon collecting a star, you must collect stars to buy power-ups; once purchased you can pick up to three before each game. You can activate your equipped power-ups whenever you like, but each power-up has a different cool-down period once it’s been used.

On paper the new system looks fair, however only though your feedback can we get this perfect. Again, head to the forum vortex.
So, the list of power-ups is now as follows:
 - Vacuum Bomb
 - Decoy Gentleman Robot
 - Perk Free Zone
 - Lock Breaker
 - Bing Bang
 - Invulnerable Shield
 - Flaming Sword
 - Ninja Stealth
 - Chain Detonation

Full info can be found on the Plain Sight Wiki

In unrelated news, we’re flattered that those scurvy internet pirates have felt us worthy of their time. Currently doing the rounds is an out of date, LAN only version of Plain Sight. We’ve downloaded it and it works, so I guess if you’re too cheap to spend $10 you can play all alone offline.

Well credit where credit is due, it works. Which is far more commendable than this laughably awful effort
(Seriously guys, a keygen for a multiplayer online game? C’mon… you have to try a bit harder than that. Also, why are you hiding the serial numbers you generate? Weird!!)

Yes, it’s been a bit quiet on the blog of late. Don’t worry, we haven’t died, we’re just working on the Plain Sight mega-patch that’s due out in the next month or so.

Having learnt from our mistakes, we’re going to be recruiting a team of beta testers for this version. If you own a copy of Pain Sight, have a few hours spare and want to take a peek at the latest features, shout in the discussion forum below. The more pro-active the member, the more likely it is that they’ll be chosen.

In other news, this week we’re pushing out a public patch that’ll add online bots, server commands and a couple of billion bug fixes. Good times!

We’ve been utterly blown away by the response to Plain Sight, we’re still reeling from all the kind words floating around the internet.

However we do realise that, as it is a multiplayer game, Plain Sight needs new content if it is to survive in the long term.

So, over the next month or so we're going to be working toward a big old patch for the game. After listening to feedback from all of you, we've decided to add a persistent perk system into Plain Sight. These perks will be earned over many games and should provide you with some tactical advantages. Currently we've got loads of awesome ideas on what we're going to implement however we're also keen to hear your thoughts...fire away in the forums.

Also, the patch will have a number of new maps and a bunch of other (super secret) stuff. Fun times!

In the meantime we'll continue to patch bugs and glitches.

PS: I'm off to Thailand for a few weeks holiday. Damien will be taking on my role of forum-frequenter / tech support guru. Huzzah!

This week we’ve added a number of frequently requested features and fixed a swarm of bugs.v1.0.1.1 is now live - full details below:

	- Steam Leaderboards are now fully working
	- Remember password option added
 - Steam overlay now works
	- Vsync option added
	- Botzilla is now randomly selected instead of sequential
	- CTF & NNB have timers now
	- Dedicated Server Versions properly. For technical reasons, I’m afraid you’ll have to re-edit your dediconfig.txt file after it patches - it’ll load the default one automatically! Sorry about that!
	- Deal with unknown characters more elegantly (replace with a ?)
	- Clients can now request spawning more than once when dead

Oh yes, next week we have some exciting news about what’s coming up on the horizon for Plain Sight. It’s very awesome, so stay tuned!

Update: Steam says it may take a while to get leaderboards and overlay enabled…

UPDATE #1

V1.0.0.3 is live. It fixes many of the crash bugs and issues surrounding launch (guess it wasn’t so smooth after all! ). There are a few bugs remaining, but this patch catches many of the the big ones.

If you have Steam, it should update itself. If you don’t, get the latest installer from the accounts section at www.plainsightgame.com

Thanks to everyone who bought the game, had nice things to say and put up with our bumpy launch!

Now we must sleep! Back in a few hours…..

PS: In Steam, if you get a “the game is currently unavailable” message. There’s a short-term fix being discussed here

UPDATE #2

Steam users get a brand spanking new update. This should resolve a number of crash bugs and other things. For the full skinny, see this forum post. Non Steam users will get an update in the next day or so.

UPDATE #3

Woot! V1.0.0.4 is out!

Ok, this patch mostly fixes crash bugs. These include, issues with soundcards, game rules and other technical shenanigans.

We’ve also fixed some of the levels (holes in the floors etc) this should also calm some of the gravity issues down a bit.

Dedicated servers have also been patched. Joy!

This will be automatically patched via Steam. If you bought from other digital distributors and are running into issues, you can download it from http://www.plainsightgame.com accounts section.

Happy Easter Robot fans!

The Beatnik team are frantically squashing bugs and quaffing cream eggs in preparation for tomorrow’s launch.

So everything goes as smoothly as possible, we’re looking for helpful folk with spare servers knocking around.

If anyone could possible spare one for the launch day please shout in the forums, DM us on twitter or just email us direct. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!

Hurrah! It’s Ada Lovelace day!

What’s this got to do about suicidal robots? Naff all. But, it does have an awful lot to do with our next game (for Channel 4) which, as some of you know, is codenamed ‘Ada’.

No, we’re not making a game directly about the wonderful Ada Lovelace (the world’s first computer programmer… read the wikipedia, it’s mind-blowing) but she has very much been an inspiration to all of us.

The game we’re working on is about as different to Plain Sight as you can get. It’s an adventure puzzler with a focus on real science and discovery.
We’re keeping a great deal under wraps, however here’s some eyecandy for you.

On a unrelated note :
Before launch, we’ve decided to purge the Beatnik Games member database. Over the last couple of years we’ve been thoroughly abused by spam bots. If you fall under any of the following criteria, your account is dead:

1) You’re a standard forum member (ie. didn’t take part in gamma test) who hasn’t posted in over a year.
2) Your email address is from Russia and you’ve never logged in or contributed.
3) You posted some spam-like URL / Bio info in your account description

If we accidentally deleted your account - sorry! Simply register again…
